On the Spanish vineyard “Viñas del Vero” the University of Zaragoza has installed three different photovoltaic systems under the project “rewind” to demonstrate that renewable energy can be profitably deployed in the wine sector.
The installed photovoltaic systems also include one DEGERtracker D100. It was equipped with 40 solar modules and has an installed capacity of 10.8 kWp. All DEGERtrackers have a patented MLD sensor and generate an average of 45% higher yield than fixed tilt systems. For the comparative study on the vineyard additional 40 modules were installed fixed tilt and 80 modules on a floating photovoltaic system.
Greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector are estimated to account for about 10% of Europe’s total emissions. This is partly due to the high consumption of diesel fuel in this sector. The “rewin” project will show that the use of renewable energy in the farming industry, using the wine sector as an example, is viable from a technical, environmental and economic perspective and to forward with modernization.
The company in charge of the study and coordinated the installation was the engineering “Intergia Energia Sostenible” from Zaragoza, together with companies “Viñas del Vero”, “LIFTEC-CSIC” and “University of Zaragoza” make project work group.
